Haden Edwards received an empresario contract to settle 800 families near Nacogdoches. When he arrived with the families in the 1820s, he discovered people already lived there. They arrived long before Mexico gave him the grant. Edwards became very angry and tried to take over the town. The Mexican government did not support Edwards. Instead, they annulled his contract. Edwards stayed in the area and attempted to start a rebellion. On December 21, 1826, Edwards and his supporters claimed part of East Texas free and independent of Mexico. They named it the Republic of Fredonia. They even had support of the Cherokee in the area. However, most Anglo settlers in Texas did not support Haden’s rebellion. When a group of men from Austin’s colony joined with Mexican soldiers to march on Fredonia, Haden and his brother fled to the United States. The unrest caused Mexican leaders to rethink their immigration policies.

1. John Jr and Vasi saw a show about gardening. It really sparked their interest. John Jr asked his mom if he and Vasi could plant a garden in backyard. At the store John Jr and Vasi purchased cucumber, pepper, cantaloupe, radish and lettuce seeds. 3. John Jr and Vasi had to prep the ground for their garden. They had to till the soil to a depth of about 10 inches,add fertilizer to enrich the soil, Level the garden bed, and Water the soil well and let it settle for a few days. 4. A few days passed and John Jr and Vasi were ready to plant. They poked holes for the seeds, then placed seeds and covered dirt over seeds. After planting , they gave a nice watering to their garden. 5. John Jr and Vasi looked after and watered their garden daily. A few weeks went by and there was some buds sprouting. A few more weeks later there was fruit and vegetables starting to form. 6.. As summer was closing in, the fruit and veggies were ripe and in abundance. John Jr and Vasi went out to the garden and picked all the fruits and vegetables. There was so much that they gave Granny and a few neighbors some of their harvest. John Jr mom gave him and Vasi some cut up cucumber and cantaloupe. They really enjoyed it. 6. As

My family says it can help us in this winter, but i don’t kno where it is.” Scene 3 When Shopie heard Finn’s words, Shopie immediately wanted to help Finn to find The Heart of The Forest. They walked into the forest, Shopie climbed trees to look around, and Finn used his nose to search for clues. Scene 4 They ran toward the light and found a small peaceful grove. In the middle, they saw a glowing ball floating above a clear spring. “So pretty!” Shopie said. Scene 5 A soft spoken voice spoke “The Heart of The Forest helps those who care for the woods. Protect the forest, and it will protect you.” “We will,” Finn said. Scene 6 As they left, the forest felt warmer and brighter. Shopie bounced around happily. “See? We found it!” she said. Finn smiled. "Thank you, Sophie. I couldn’t have done it without you." Scene 7 From that day on, Sophie and Finn became best friends, always looking after the forest and each other.
