Albi feels stuck between his parents. Ever since the divorce, it seems like they each want him to take their side—even when they don’t say it out loud. He wishes he could be in two places at once. Before they could run, a magical pull tugged at them, and they were swept under the water! In the blink of an eye, Alex and Poppy found themselves in the sea witch’s shimmering underwater cave, surrounded by glittering treasures and colourful fish. The sea witch smiled wickedly. “You will help me find my lost crown, or you must stay here forever!” The sea witch became distracted by a family of lost turtles, trying to enter her underwater cave. Alex looked at Poppy, his heart racing. “We need to get out of here!” With a nod of agreement, they started to tip-toe behind the mountains of treasure in the sea witch’s cave. Suddenly, they spotted a golden starfish that shimmered brightly—it looked magical! “Let’s grab it!” shouted Poppy, reaching out. As they grasped the starfish together, a brilliant light filled the cave! With a bright flash, the starfish granted them one wish. The friends looked at each other, grinned, and shouted together, “Take us back home!” In an instant, they found themselves back on the sandy beach, the sun shining down once more. They cheered and hugged each other. “Where have you been?” Alex’s mum asked. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you!” Alex laughed.

One day the library media center had an unwelcomed visitor. This visitor was not an ordinary human. This visitor was not even human at all. It was from Mars. It was Martian. And it was a fly. Not a little fly that we see buzzing around out doors at picnics trying to land on juicy watermelons. But a huge fly. Almost bigger than the hand of a Pre K student. This fly was from Mars and it loved to read books. So, one day when the door to the library media center was left open by a student, this Martian fly flew right in. He was in fly heaven. He went from book to book and read how to live on Earth. What to eat to not make his belly hurt. And how to avoid humans. He was having the time of his life. Until one day, he made a big mistake. The media specialist and her assistant Miss Bee and Miss Crystal saw him in the nonfiction section. They didn't know that he was an alien. They assumed he was a mutated fly that was so big that he might bite one of their students. No matter how hard they tried they were unable to catch the fly. Soon, they gave up because they had a job to do and that was to make sure all students could come in and check out great books to read as well as help students with their Chromebooks. So Miss Bee decided to trap the fly in another room so no student could be harm by the fearsome creature.

Enthusiastically, the three of them walked towards the vast green meadow. The sun shone warmly above their heads, and beautiful flowers bloomed all around, creating a colourful scene. Every now and then they stopped to admire the fluttering butterflies. After walking for some distance, Mango's eyes suddenly caught sight of something glittering in the grass. ‘Look at that!’ she exclaimed, pointing. Apple and Orange rushed over to Mango. There, in the undergrowth, was a medium-sized, gold-coloured stone that glittered amongst the greenery. The stone was very beautiful, as if it had been chiselled by the hand of a god. ‘Let's take it back to our tree.’ However, when they tried to lift it, it was heavier than they thought. Mango and Orange pulled, Apple pushed the rock slowly. They struggled persistently. Although they were tired, they did not give up. They encouraged each other and laughed. Finally, after a tiring journey, they managed to carry the golden stone to the bottom of the tree where they stopped. When the stone was placed on the ground, it reflected beautifully. The three of them sat by the stone, enjoying the fruits of their labour. From that day on, the golden stone became a symbol of their friendship.
